About Us

Tole Painting is a very old art form that means "painting on tin".  Today, it is more accurately known as 'Decorative Art' because of its other uses including any form that is painted on any item, whether functional or non-functional.  This can include objects such as wood, wax, fabric, canvas, glass, ceramic, metal, plastic or "any object that doesn't move".

Many styles of painting are considered decorative art today including Folk Art, Rosemaling (Norwegian Folk Art), Bauernmaleri (Bavarian Folk Art), Still Life, Florals, Landscapes, Portraits, Pen and Ink, and Tin Punch to mention a few.  These can be painted using any media, oils, acrylics, alkyds, or watercolor. One characteristic that is common to all categories and styles is a pattern provided so that those who feel they have little or no "artistic talent" can successfully produce a beautiful end product.  Another common characteristic is learning how to make a variety of different brushes work best for each kind of stroke or desired effect.  It's true! -- with practice anyone with the desire can learn to decorative paint.

Decorative Painting is an art form that can hold your attention for many years to come.
You can continue to learn new techniques, try different surfaces, and always, always improve.  You will love the many projects you finish as they begin to enhance your home's decor or serve as lovely personalized gifts for others.  Many use this art form as a way to bring in a little income selling some of their projects.
